OpenID Foundation names Biometric Update as media partner

Published October 16, 2026

The OpenID Foundation is pleased to announce Biometric Update as the official media partner for the forthcoming OpenID Well-Known Conference.

Taking place in London on February 2-4, 2027, this is the OpenID Foundation's first global conference. Its goal is to help digital identity and credential ecosystems move from implementation to widespread adoption. The conference will bring together ecosystem leaders, practitioners, and standards experts to share lessons on how to achieve adoption and scale.

Shared focus on identity in practice

Biometric Update's daily coverage spans many of the areas where OpenID Foundation standards are in use or in development, including digital wallets, government ID programs, age assurance and fraud prevention.

Its readers include governments, financial institutions and technology providers. Many are directly involved in deploying identity systems, which makes them a natural audience for the conference.

Gail Hodges, Executive Director of the OpenID Foundation, said: “Standards reach scale when the people who develop them and the people who deploy them are in the same conversation. Our first global conference brings those groups together to discuss what it takes to achieve adoption and scale. This partnership with Biometric Update will help extend that conversation beyond our existing community.”

“The next challenge for digital identity is turning standards into trusted, interoperable systems that work at scale,” said Stephen Mayhew, Publisher of Biometric Update. “Our readers are directly involved in building and deploying those systems, and this partnership gives us an opportunity to bring practical insights from the OpenID community to the wider identity industry.”

About the OpenID Foundation

The OpenID Foundation (OIDF) is a global open standards body committed to building trusted identity ecosystems. Our mission is to lead the global community in identity standards that are secure, interoperable, and privacy respecting. Founded in 2007, we are a community of technical experts. The Foundation's OpenID Connect standard is now used by billions of people across millions of applications. More recently, the FAPI security profile - built on OAuth 2.0 - has become the standard of choice for interoperable Open Banking and Open Data implementations, while OpenID for Verifiable Credentials specifications are underpinning a new generation of digital wallets. Today, the OpenID Foundation's standards are the connective tissue that enable people to assert their identity and access their data at scale, the scale of the internet, enabling "networks of networks" to interoperate globally. Individuals, companies, governments and non-profits are encouraged to join or participate. Find out more at openid.net.
