At the OpenID Foundation, everything we do is built on open collaboration and the diverse perspectives that make our work meaningful. The OIDFGroups, Activities, & Events Code of Conduct Policy implemented in June 2025 plays a key role in making that possible.
When it was first introduced, its purpose was to provide a common framework for how we work together, ensuring expectations are clear and consistent for every participant, across every working group and community group. As our community has grown and evolved, it became clear that the original policy would benefit from additional guidance, particularly around how concerns are raised, reviewed, and resolved, and the steps OIDF will take to ensure our community standards are upheld for everyone.
This blog is to inform the community that the OIDF Groups, Activities, & Events Code of Conduct Policy has been updated and was formally approved by the Board at the April 20, 2026 Board meeting. It is effective immediately. It can also be found on the OIDF website here: https://openid.net/policies/.
The updated Groups, Activities, & Events Code of Conduct Policy primarily adds Section 5. This new section provides contributors, participants, the Board, the Executive Committee, and staff with clear guidance on how concerns can be raised, how they are reviewed, and what to expect from the process, including how situations are handled in real time, how post-event concerns are followed up, and how complaints are processed. This ensures that every participant can feel confident that any situation will be managed consistently, fairly, and with care.
We encourage every member to take a few minutes to read the updated policy in detail so that you’re familiar going forward.
Every member of our community has a role to play in upholding the standards that make OIDF what it is. Taking a few minutes to read the updated policy is the best place to start.

About The OpenID Foundation (OIDF)
The OpenID Foundation (OIDF) is a global open standards body committed to helping people assert their identity wherever they choose. Founded in 2007, we are a community of technical experts leading the creation of open identity standards that are secure, interoperable, and privacy preserving. The Foundation’s OpenID Connect standard is now used by billions of people across millions of applications. In the last five years, the Financial Grade API has become the standard of choice for Open Banking and Open Data implementations, allowing people to access and share data across entities. Today, the OpenID Foundation’s standards are the connective tissue to enable people to assert their identity and access their data at scale, the scale of the internet, enabling “networks of networks” to interoperate globally. Individuals, companies, governments and non-profits are encouraged to join or participate. Find out more at openid.net.
