OpenID Foundation Japan (OIDF-J) hosted the OpenID Summit Tokyo 2024 in Shibuya Tokyo on Friday, January 19, 2024 with over 250 in attendance. The OpenID Foundation (OIDF) was thrilled to be a part of the Summit that included contributors from Japan and abroad presenting on current digital identity, security, and digital wallet topics.

Gail Hodges, OIDF Executive Director, kicked the Summit off by presenting OIDF’s strategic outlook for 2024 as well as a detailed briefing on the Sustainable Interoperable Digital Identity (SIDI) Summit held in Paris in November 2023.

A highlight of the Summit was a panel discussion celebrating ten years of OpenID Connect. This panel was coordinated and moderated by longtime OIDF board member and OpenID Connect editor, Mike Jones. Panelists included OIDF Chairman, Nat Sakimura, longtime Connect contributor and evangelist, Nov Matake, and Ryo Ito, OIDF-J Evangelist. As Mike Jones noted in his blog, the panelists shared their experiences on what led to OpenID Connect, why it’s been successful, and lessons learned along the way. This was the first of three planned OpenID Connect celebrations in 2024 with the other two taking place at Identiverse in May and the European Identity and Cloud Conference in June.

Nat Sakimura concluded the OpenID Summit Tokyo 2024 by delivering the closing keynote.
