OpenID Foundation returns to Gartner IAM Summit to showcase Shared Signals interoperability in action

  • OpenID Foundation invites attendees to come along and find out how it is laying the groundwork for safer digital ecosystems leveraging shared signals.
  • December event will demonstrate the game-changing role the OpenID Foundation’s Shared Signals Framework is playing in advancing zero trust and ITDR.

San Ramon, CA, 06 December 2024 – The OpenID Foundation is proud to announce its return to the Gartner Identity and Access Management Summit, to be held in Grapevine, Texas, from December 9th to 11th, 2024.

Building on the significant success of its interoperability sessions at the previous Gartner Summit earlier this year in London, the OpenID Foundation will once again demonstrate the power and potential of its Shared Signals Framework (SSF) in securing digital identities and enabling real-time Identity Threat Detection and Response (ITDR).

The SSF is a game-changing open standard developed in the OpenID Foundation’s Shared Signals Working Group (SSWG). It is an open API across which different risk signals can be sent, including the Continuous Access Evaluation Profile (CAEP) and Risk Incident Sharing and Coordination (RISC). These enable applications and service providers to communicate and make dynamic access and authorization decisions.  These protocols are providing the foundation for dynamic access control, improving response times to emerging threats.

Atul Tulshibagwale, Co-Chair of the OpenID Foundation’s Shared Signals Working Group and CTO of SGNL, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming event: “There is a real industry shift towards collaborative security enabled by open standards, and since it was demonstrated at the last Gartner event, the Shared Signals Framework has rapidly gained traction. Many leading companies have now announced their support for this set of standards, and are in the process of implementing them.

“That’s why we are delighted to have been invited back by Gartner to run these interoperability sessions with implementers who will demonstrate how these protocols are enabling robust Zero Trust architectures and enhanced security through seamless, real-time collaboration.”

Gail Hodges, the Executive Director of the OpenID Foundation said, “Shared Signals is a critical new open standard to address the current threat environment, as  recognized by a recent report from the CISA Cybersafety Review Board. Gartner’s invitation to the OpenID Foundation to demonstrate interoperability of Shared Signals is a fantastic step on the journey to global scale and interoperability, by engaging industry leaders at this Gartner IAM Summit.”

Attendees of Gartner IAM Summit are invited to participate in two key sessions:

  1. Building a Trust Fabric with the OpenID Shared Signals Framework
  • Monday, December 9th, 2:30 PM - 3:00 PM (CST).

Led by the OpenID Foundation’s Atul, together with Garner VP Analysts Felix Gaehtgens and Erik Wahlstrom, this session will explore the role of SSF in building a secure trust fabric, demonstrating how organizations can leverage open standards to streamline security event communication.

  1. Shared Signals Interop Demos: CAEP and RISC in Action
  • Tuesday, December 10th, 12:00 PM - 12:30 PM, 2.00 PM - 2.30 PM, 3.45 PM - 4.15 PM (CST).
  • Wednesday, December 11th, 12 PM - 12.30 PM, 1 PM - 1.30 PM, 2.45 PM - 3.15 PM (CST).

Led by Atul and Elizabeth Garber of the OpenID Foundation, this interactive session will feature live demonstrations from leading implementers, showcasing how SSF, CAEP, and RISC work together to enable real-time ITDR.

The OpenID Foundation encourages all attendees to book time with interoperability participants, including industry leaders like AppOmni, caep.dev, Cisco, Delinea, Google, IBM, Jamf, Okta, Omnissa, SailPoint, Saviynt, SGNL, Thales, WinMagic.  These one-on-one sessions will offer an in-depth look at how SSF is addressing real-world security challenges and laying the groundwork for a safer digital ecosystem.

About The OpenID Foundation (OIDF)

The OpenID Foundation (OIDF) is a global open standards body committed to helping people assert their identity wherever they choose. Founded in 2007, we are a community of technical experts leading the creation of open identity standards that are secure, interoperable, and privacy preserving. The Foundation’s OpenID Connect standard is now used by billions of people across millions of applications. In the last five years, the Financial Grade API has become the standard of choice for Open Banking and Open Data implementations, allowing people to access and share data across entities. Today, the OpenID Foundation’s standards are the connective tissue to enable people to assert their identity and access their data at scale, the scale of the internet, enabling “networks of networks” to interoperate globally. Individuals, companies, governments and non-profits are encouraged to join or participate. Find out more at openid.net.
